Apollo’s Raven by Linnea Tanner is an outstanding book. This story focuses on the threat of war, on multiple fronts, and the attempt to broker peace. The book also identifies how the Celtic and Roman people attempt to secure what they deem to be theirs, during this period. Princess Catrin is forced to deal with finding out who and what she is and her role in the kingdom. She is faced with decisions that could lead her to be named enemy or friend, depending on whose perspective the declaration comes from. She meets Marcellus during her journey to find out who she is and has to decide whether he is a friend or a foe. Is his purpose to destroy her or to help her to connect with whom she is meant to be?

There are quite a few things about the book that are great. The storyline brings out differences between the Celtic and Roman cultures regarding their views on women in power. The storyline also accentuates love being forged in areas that society, of that time, deemed unworthy and unwanted. The story incorporates many twists and turns that keep the book interesting and keeps the reader on edge. Some points of intrigue arise when different people are captured by the enemy. The reactions from their loved ones cause different shifts in the book that keep the story alive. The story keeps the reader guessing as to what each character will decide and if the character will present their true purpose or a pretense. The book presented magic, sorcery, shapeshifting, and some dark rituals to assist the characters with achieving their goals. The book also intertwined past and present character stories to show how different individual features came to be.

It was difficult to choose something that was not liked in this book. The area of dislike was that the book ended, and I wanted to read more about the characters. The book was at a good ending point and can stand on its own, but I was not prepared for the book to conclude. Luckily, the book is the first in a series and I will be able to move forward with finding out what happens next.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The book is magnificently written and was very well edited. The continuous storyline along with the multiple surprises made this book easy to read and a continual page-turner.

This book would be enjoyed by the adult population who enjoys historical and fantasy romance. Individuals who are interested in Roman and Celtic history and rituals would also enjoy reading this book.
