Wild World by Peter S. Rush is a captivating tale of the efforts of an individual to bring change in a corruption-ridden system, set against the strongest of forces willing to silence him. Steve, a student at Brown University and a star athlete, surprises everyone when he decides to join the police force. His father, girlfriend, roommates and friends had expected him to go to law school and have a thriving career in law, but Steve, after attending a talk by a former officer of the law, decides to be an agent of change by being a police officer who will make a difference. His journey towards that goal is beset with challenges all over, such as the leadership in the force who are suspicious of a college graduate joining the force and a girlfriend who fights for social justice on the streets through demonstrations and, as such, has had unpleasant encounters with the police. The question is whether his determination to effect change is strong enough to withstand such pressure.

From the get-go, one can tell the book is very well written. One thing that the author perfected was the description of emotions felt by characters. Rush had more control in explaining the range of emotions felt by a specific person and how their actions affected the people around them emotionally by using the third person point of view. This really invites the reader to share in what the characters feel, particularly in dilemmas where what's right is purely subjective. The author's masterstroke is further seen in how he sets up action scenes. The book has exciting action scenes and the switch between describing physical pain and emotional distress in the characters is magnificent to say the least.

The author did very little wrong with this book. In my reading, I found a grammatical error that points to slightly less than perfect editing.

I give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 . The exceptional descriptions made by the author make this book one of the finest. Moreover, the book is very captivating, with sufficiently developed characters. The error I found was not significant enough to impact my rating of the book.

This book is ideal for readers with a keen interest in the forces of change for the good in society. The book contains strong language and scenes of a sexual nature, and as such, is ideal for mature audiences. Due to its setting, the story also contains racial slurs in some of the dialogue.
