Killing Abel is a great read. It is a great fictional piece for both for believers of the Christian faith and people who are not religiously inclined. The book takes its inspiration from the Bible, but it is not heavily religious. What the author did that is so great about this book; is that he writes from the perspective of the fly on the wall. He gives us a deeper look into the lives of the Biblical figures by writing the story in first person. This makes us connect and relate more to the characters because we get to meet them on a personal level.

What I love about the story is that it brings to light the challenges of fatherhood which is highlighted in God's relationship with men his creation. We also get to experience the challenges of men as they grapple with the concept of their identity and how they relate with others. The author does a wonderful job of bringing into light these internal struggles of fathers and men in general by narrating the inner most thoughts of the characters. This is seen in the first chapter after the fall of men, when the author narrates the thoughts of Adam and Eve, God and the trinity as well as the antagonist which is Lucifer. This trends continues throughout the rest of the chapters in the book and is a key aspect of keeping the reader hooked to the story.

This was an eye opening read for me, because the author took stories that are familiar to someone who has read the Bible or is at least familiar with the Biblical content, and wrote it with so much depth that it was almost like one is reading an autobiography. This style of writing allows the reader to go on the emotional journey of the characters and allows us to see them as human instead of just characters in a book. We get to experience their disappointments as well as their triumphs. The most important thing that this book has taught me; it is that human nature is flawed and that we all do our best to do the right thing and that just because we fail from time to time, we aren't irredeemable.

I give the book 3 out of 4 stars. It is an excellent read, the only flaw is that the author has a tendency to drag the storylines with can result in the reader losing interest in the book. It is however still a well written book which is worth the investment. I would recommend it to fathers, it's a great way to show appreciation to men and fathers. It is the best way to show that they are seen and that their sacrifices and struggles are validated.
