Review of Killing Abel
According to the old testament scriptures of the bible, on the sixth day, God created the animals to fill the earth. He also created a man and a woman in his own image to commune with him. He blessed them and gave them every creature and the whole earth to rule over, care for, and cultivate.
Killing Abel by Michael Tieman is a work of historical fiction based on a biblical story about the creation of man and the relationship between God and man in ancient times. The story commences with the first woman’s encounter with an angel sent to look after them. The angel with evil intentions lured her into eating the forbidden fruit of knowledge. Going against God, humans were cast away from the garden as a punishment for their disobedience. Life outside the garden wasn’t an easy one. Man began to strive, but on God’s instructions to fill and multiply the earth, man and woman tied the knot in matrimony, which were blessed with many children.
The author’s description of the biblical account of Genesis was well detailed , starting from the creation story to the story of Noah. He found a way to create an interaction between the reader and the characters in the book, which was impressive. I have always found the biblical stories in the book of Genesis hard to comprehend, but after reading this book, everything was clear to me. I enjoyed how the writer gave each character their own sense of thinking; they acted and spoke independently. The writer gave an imaginary scene of how humans came to be on earth. This book also explains human beings' hunger for success and domination. It also gave an insight into the relationship between man and woman, stretching from man’s first matrimony to procreation. I was encouraged by the love they shared. The man always supported the woman, even when they were going through difficult times.
There’s nothing to dislike about this book. It was educative in every aspect of life. Even after they had disobeyed him, God still chose to answer the humans. His undying forgiveness and love is something to be emulated by all Christians all over the world. Also, the man and woman didn’t use God’s punishment as an excuse not to nurture their children in a proper manner. They forgot what lay behind and pressed forward.
The book was fantastic and exceptionally well edited, which is why I would rate it 4 out of 4 stars. This book is most suitable for families, Christians, and religious scholars. Also, those who were unsatisfied after reading the creation story from the bible should definitely read this book.
