Killing Abel by Michael Tieman is a book that narrates the fall of man. Human beings were regarded as the most superior creatures. God even gave Adam and Eve dominion over other creations. By their nature, they were also more similar to the image of God than any other creation. This also meant purity and obedience to God. The biggest difference was that man was prone to sin. Eve broke God’s law, not to eat the fruit in the middle of the garden. She even convinced her husband to do so too.

God got angry and chased them out of the garden. He also cursed them. As they went, they began experiencing the real struggles of humanity. Adam changed his mind at old age with the wisdom that God's curses might have been a blessing in disguise. As the children grew, Adam and Eve had a challenge with birthing a boy. When they eventually did, the differences between the boys led to Abel’s death. While reading this book, it struck me that we are all Cain's descendants.

This book was an exceptional read. What I liked most was that the book was written to be as realistic and as relatable as possible. The characters were very realistic as they got carried away with human emotions like jealousy and love. The part that I found to be fascinating was the struggle that Adam and Eve had with conceiving a son. Just reading how it strained their relationship with each other and themselves was quite intriguing.

While I was reading the book, I did not spot any grammatical errors or writing mistakes. This led me to believe that the book must have been well edited. I also don’t have any negative thoughts about this book. It’s an amazing book. Even though it was fictional and the backbone of the story was inspired by another story, it had a strong sense of originality.

I would like to rate this book as 4 out of 4 because first, as I have already stated earlier, it was an exceptional read. Another reason for my rating was that it was such a ravishing, refreshing, thought-provoking book. An example is the kind of themes that were brought to play in the book. Themes like marriage, childbearing, and sibling rivalry were so authentic and relatable. I would like to recommend this book to lovers of historical fiction because I believe they will have a wonderful time reading it.
