Review of Beyond the Higher Ground
Tucker Mason moves to Virginia and rents a house after being made a manager of a prison construction project. Following the death of the previous occupants, several mysterious events begin to occur after Mason insisted on renting the house because he loved the quiet environment. While struggling with the death of his wife, he's forced to deal with the scary events that occur after moving into the house. After some time in Virginia, Mason discovers that drug abuse is quite rampant in the area and has had numerous bad effects on the people. How will Mason handle this news? Check out his experiences in this book.
Beyond the Higher Ground by Thomas A. Brigger is a historical fiction written from a third-person point of view. The book is masterfully written, capturing my attention from the beginning to the end. I love the mystery and the feeling of always wanting to solve it and know the ending. This book follows Tucker and all his experiences before and after coming to Bright's Mountain. This book encompasses different themes that are applied to today's society such as drug abuse and harassment. With well-developed characters, the book is interesting and kept me intrigued and anticipating what's next. The excellent descriptions left me with pictures of Bright’s Mountain and its inhabitants.
The drug problem is bad in the Appalachian Mountains and it harms the individuals and families who live there, playing a major role in the story. I commend the author’s ability to bring attention to the plight of those unfortunate people affected by drugs and poverty. The book addresses drug addiction and abuse in our society. The book portrayed the consequences of drug usage, and its central message is a campaign against substance abuse and addiction.
The structure of the sentences is good though I did encounter a few errors in a reported speech this did not reduce my enjoyment of the book. This book is professionally edited with few errors.
There isn't anything I disliked about the book so I will like to rate the book 4 out of 4 stars.
I recommend this book to people who love reading historical fiction and love solving mysteries. Though there is hardly any sexual content in the book, it does contain quite a lot of profanities. So it's unsuitable for children but will be beneficial to young adults to know the importance of abstinence from drugs.
