Review of Beyond the Higher Ground
Mason springs from a dysfunctional family just like many others in existence in our society. Family is something that has just become outdated with time or so it seems. Mason happens to be raised by his mother who circumstances forced her to quit and hand him to his grandparents who took care of him through the rest of his childhood life. He is able to grow up and we journey with him go see if he'll make it in life given his wrong start.
Thomas A. Brigger jots down this book with alot of vividness almost like he must have gone through the same in his young life. Family is being satirized here where it happens to have not only failed but also malfunctioned. I think it's high time we realize that hoping to find better relationships out of the ones we are in, only leaves the ones left behind broken and helpless at times. I would use the term betrayal to magnify the effect that is caused by such acts.
The book is superbly edited with no errors and the author made use of quite eccentric styles having featured dialogue, which I loved most, as well as others. Beyond the Higher Ground is also able to improve one's grammar since it has a lot of new vocabulary coupled with well placed sentences just to mention. The fight, or rather war against drugs still proves to be a challenge and has a significant portion in the book. I appreciate the fact that Mason was able to live his life given his queer nature most definitely as a result of his unusual upbringing. It also proves that helping others through whatever they may be going through is hectic but satisfactory in the end.
I generally liked the book and found nothing to dislike. This was contributed to the nature of the book having not taken the immorality path since the author was able to separate sexual immorality from drug use atleast for this book. It is also hard to ignore the level of critical thinking bestowed to our law enforcers who help in solving well played riddles and saving the day. I would like to sound a wake up call to all families out there to keep within their boundaries in order to preserve the blossoming of their children with no flaws caused by parents or a parent's absence.
I give the book a cool 4 out of 4 stars for being able to keep me exhilarated all through and being able to also avoid obscenity at most since it's presence is almost insignificant. Aspects like well spaced chapters and books font obviously add to the above rating. I would recommend the book to people who have had a rough journey growing maybe without a parent or with none at all to take some time and reinstate their long lost energy by reading this book.
