The work of Thomas A. Brigger is a fantastic thriller with a mix of crime, investigation and a smidgeon of romance. Mason has been tasked with constructing a prison in Creek town, but he faces numerous hurdles and roadblocks. Is he going to finish his goal in this town or will he abandon it? Beyond the Higher Ground is a must-read that lives up to the expectations of its audience.

Creek town is a little town with a tumultuous past that is wary of visitors. With the exception of a few people, Mason receives a poor reception when he arrives. Many individuals believe that building the prison will be a good idea because it will provide employment possibilities for the communities who are not well off. Mason and his team are up against another hurdle regarding the prison's site; for some reason, someone is opposed to it to the extent of threatening Mason's life. He is repeatedly threatened, and at one point, he is even shot at. Will Mason overcome these obstacles and complete the project, or will he give up and feel it isn't worth the effort?

A lot of suspense can make a reader nervous, but I like how the author uses suspense to keep the reader interested. In some ways, I found the book educational as well; it clearly explains how drugs damage society and how to solve such issues without abandoning victims who are always members of the same community. The author also makes excellent use of flashback to help us get a better understanding of our main character; for example, flashbacks about Mason's late wife help us understand why he acts the way he does. The plot and language in the book are simple to comprehend. I'd also like to congratulate the editors on a job well done, as I found no errors.

I couldn't think of anything I didn't enjoy about it. In terms of adventure, drugs and criminality, the book does not disappoint the reader's expectations. The only issue is that some of the slang used in the book may offend some readers.

I would give the book a four out of four star rating. It would be an injustice to award the book a lower score because it is excellent in every way.

I would recommend it to readers who enjoy crime and investigative literature.
