Tucker Mason moves to Wells County, Virginia, in what he believes will be a new start for him. A big project building a prison in Wells County is probably just what he needs. After losing his wife recently Mason is still grieving and is having a hard time coming to peace with his wife Katherine's death. He finds a place in Wells County which he deems good enough for him but even before he can move in things begin to take a sinister turn. When things begin to take an even more worrying aspect Mason begins to wonder whether it is all worth it. After a curious run-in with a little girl and a gun-totting woman who everyone seems not to believe exists Mason tries getting some answers from the townsfolk who are acting dodgy. With a drug problem beginning to bloom in the town which seems to affect the project he's working on Mason has no choice but to get to the bottom of things. But what really is going on in Low Creek? Is Bright Mountain really haunted and what is it with all the strange goings-on around his property?

Beyond The Higher Ground by Thomas A. Brigger is nothing short of a reader's nirvana. The book has an excellent plot which is well laid out building up to an unexpectedly fascinating climax. The characters are well developed and the dialogue is excellent. The descriptive prowess of the author is to be lauded as well as he brings the reader into the characters' world with his vivid descriptions. The book also seems to have been professionally edited as there were no mistakes that I could see. This made the book a joy to read. I also loved the way the author moves back and forth in the narrative's timeline to give the reader a better perspective of the events in the story. The book also contained a bit of mystery and some parts even bordered on being outright scary, like when Mason recieves a warning from a little girl who then disappears into the woods, I really liked that.

There was nothing in the book that I did not like. The storyline and the plot are well executed and the lack of errors and other mistakes in Beyond The Higher Ground made it a really pleasurable read.

I would give the book a rating of 4 out of 4 seeing as there are no errors, grammatical or otherwise, and the book itself is quite enjoyable.

I would recommend Beyond The Higher Ground to anyone who likes thrillers and suspense narratives. Anyone who loves a good mystery might also enjoy this book. All in all a very good book and anyone who just loves a good story with an excellent plot should probably check this out.
