The story of Brandy, Ballad of a Pirate Princess, by Dan E. Hendrickson, is a historical fiction set on the Caribbean Sea during the early 1800s when the British ruled the area and pirates were known for their raids upon other ships for stealing and transporting slaves. After spending the first half of her life on a pirate ship with her parents, Eric "The Plague" Erasmus, and his wife The Scarlett Witch, as the leaders and most infamously hated pirates, Brandy Erasmus must run away from the only life she lived and is forced into hiding. Many years later, Brandy is still in hiding and working in a local tavern in Jamaica with her uncle. when Captain Joshua, his first officer John Edwards and the ship's crew walk into the tavern and new relationships form fast due to some unexpected events.

This story was short but was also packed with lots of great events that were crucial to the story as a whole so it was hard to put the book down once I started reading it. I enjoyed the authors writing style as it is very descriptive and he gave a great depth of background information about each character to help build the character's personality. The historical aspect of the story, including Chinese fighting techniques, slave trading, and pirate raiding was very captivating and helped add realism to the story and characters.

I enjoyed this book and the only part of the story that I did not enjoy and that I think should be changed is the inclusion of a character that seemed to mirror the infamous Captain Hook from Peter Pan. It seems as if he was described as having very similar physical and personality features as Captain Hook. I think the author could replace this character and recreate a new villain pirate character that would work well with the story as all his other characters are amazingly created.

I rate this book a 3 out of 4. This book has very few errors, was well written and the author kept the action going throughout this whole book so I would like to give it a 4 but I can't only due to the romance and love evolving throughout the story between a few different characters. I do not enjoy love or romance stories but I do understand and appreciate how the author made the evolving and growing relationships an important part of the story.

This book is perfect for any adult that enjoys adventure, history, and romance. The adventure and historical references throughout the story were exciting and kept me guessing what would happen next, and I never guessed correctly. The romance in the book is enduring and not just about physical attraction but about the characters full personalities working together.
