Beyond The Higher Ground is a fictional novel written by Thomas A. Brigger. People have different ways of handling pain and grief. Many find comfort in friends, some in their work and some in isolation. Mason Tucker was trying to deal with his grief and pain in his way in this novel.

Mason had a lot going on in his life and was looking for a change of environment. He was put in charge of a prison construction project in Wells County, Virginia. The apartment he got was close to the building site and away from the town. He started well with the people of the town by getting to meet and make friends. A few days after his arrival, he had some dangerous experiences. Someone deliberately ran him off the road. He soon discovered that someone didn’t want him in that town. He needed to find out who that person was. His search led him to numerous discoveries about that town. What is his fate? Who wants him out of the town and why? All these questions will be answered in this book.

The author did a good job of providing characters that were interesting and easy to relate to. The major character, Mason, was a man who was unscared of all the things he witnessed. He was strong and determined to find out things about Wells County. The character of Sally was also an interesting one. She was free with everyone and brightens the book. The book was written in the first-person perspective, and this allowed readers to experience the thoughts and emotions of the characters provided. Thomas built up suspense and delivered it perfectly, which placed me on the edge of my seat throughout. He used a simple writing style and simple English, which made it easier for me to follow the storyline perfectly. All these made me enjoy this book.

The book contains some profane words which I felt the author should have warned readers about before reading. That was the only issue I had with this book. The book was a perfect read as it was interesting and also provided detailed descriptions and history of places like Virginia and a lot more.

Therefore, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The book was professionally edited as I noticed no error in it. I will recommend this novel to lovers of non-fiction books with many twists. The author did a good job with this book as it touches the human struggles and challenges.
