It is a few years into Donald Trump’s tenor as the 45th president of the United States of America. He has managed to make policies that have been classified as sexist, racist, and greatly inconsiderate. Some will even say that he is leading America down a path that could only end in doom. To ensure that this does not happen, Jesus Christ, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Eleanor Roosevelt (who were magically brought back to earth) all visit him to show him the light. They try in their little ways to make him not only a better person but also a better president.

On another continent, Prophet Mohammed visits the crown prince of Saudi Arabia and some other leaders in the Muslim world to show them the error in their ways. He hopes that through that meeting, Islam can be steered in the direction that Allah had always intended it to. Other big names like Moses, Buddha, Shakespeare, Beethoven and Michelangelo, Margaret Mead, Sigmund Freud, Albert Einstein, H.G. Wells, Hitler, and Joan of Arc all come back. They are given 30 days to explore the new world and think of ways to make it a better place. The main question that has been on their minds is who the little girl that managed to bring them all to life was. Can they make the world a better place as she hopes?

The God Child by Stuart Rawlings is a political satire that hopes to achieve two goals (in my opinion). The first is to make its readers laugh. The second is to bring to its readers’ attention, some of the things that are wrong with the world today. One topic that it touches on is climate change. Even though some prominent people in our world today choose to deny all the proof that has been shown that says that our world is slowly dying, it does not make this fact any less true. I like that even though this book was written for entertainment purposes, it practically screamed (through its characters) that we should take better care of our planet.

Another lesson that is taught is that women should not be seen as second-class citizens of the world. This message was clearly passed across by Prophet Mohammed when he visited the key custodians of Islam. This in itself can be said to be the author’s way of advancing a tenet of the feminist that says that all humans are equal. This is actually what I liked above all else in the book.

After reading this novel, I was pretty disappointed with how it ended. The thing that I like least in the novel is that after showing so much promise and titillating my mind with the promise of things to come, the author had to go and break my heart. I had so much hope that the characters will be made to do things a certain way and not what the author made them do at the end of the novel. I cannot share details of what the end was like because I do not want to give you spoilers. Anywho, Stuart Rawlings gave reasons for why he had to end things the way that he did. Even though I am still sore about that his choice, I understand.

For the exceptional editing, the wonderful character development, the daring storyline, and all the humor that was put in the The God Child, I rate it 4 out of 4 stars. even though I am displeased with the way it ended, I cannot blame the author for ending things that way. That aside, the book deserves the perfect rating above.

Readers that like reading political satires will get a good laugh out of this. As for strong Trump supporters that hate it when their idol is portrayed in a way that is different from the kind of person he is, I suggest that you sit this one out. You may end up being triggered. Lastly, I just want to say that the former president was never insulted in the story.
