Review by oduduima -- The McCoys Before The Feud
The McCoys Before the Feud by Thomas A. McCoy is an interesting epic thriller that tells the story of bravery and chivalry. Tommy finds himself on the defeated side after a long and grueling war. However, he is bound to change his fortune. Pretending to surrender, he rendezvouses with his kinfolk, and together, they plan a daring heist that leaves the reader at the edge of his seat till the very last page.
Set during the American civil war, the book tells its story in the third-person perspective. It illustrates how the McCoy kinfolk set out on a number of skirmishes to right wrongs inflicted on them by the enemy soldiers. The author is a great story teller. He takes his time to be detailed in narrating the scenes, taking care to spell out angles and elevation, bringing up vivid imaging of the real scene in your mind. I really love how he pays attention to details and does not leave much to imagination.
The characterization and plot of the book is superb. The author takes care to describe processes as there were at the era in which the book was set. He also develops his characters beautifully, and this is a big plus for me. The author also has a good sense of humor which is reflected throughout the book, causing me to laugh out loud sometimes. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and I found no noteworthy negative.
Also, despite the fact that the story was centered around soldiers, the author took care to eliminate the use of swear languages throughout the book. Also, there was only a mention of eroticisms throughout the book. The book expounds the benefits of togetherness, and it promotes beneficial social values such as honesty, chivalry and bravery. The author narrates how the McCoys made sure to prevent violence during their skirmishes’; thus, promoting beneficial anti-violence views. This makes the book very adequate for a broad spectrum of readers.
Personally, I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars. The book is a powerful page-turner which is well-written with excellent character development and narration. I did not find any major errors in diction, and I would say the book was well edited. The book contains no religious inclination making it suitable for any individual, irrespective of religious foundations. Also, the book contains no gory scenes which is an additional plus. I recommend this novel to all lovers of historical fiction, it will definitely thrill you to the very last page, leaving you wanting for more.
