THE VISION of JENNY MERKUS by Hadassa Mor is depicted on the life of Jenny Merkus. The book has twenty one chapters and every chapter has a lesson to learn from. The story has been narrated in third person singular. It is an incredible tale of a woman destined for greatness. It is evident from the work that the author has put in a great amount of time and resources to do a thorough research on Jenny's life and works.

Jenny Merkus was born to the Governor of Dutch India. She had a very comfortable life with luxury at her fingertips. At an early age of five she lost her father after which she and her mother moved to Holland. After her mother falls into depression, Jenny moves to her uncle's house, who unlike Jenny's family is poor. Growing up with her priest uncle, Jenny had started taking interest in religious matters and soon felt the need to dive deep into religious matters.

After facing a lot of hardships, she decides to help the distressed people. It was during her visit to religious places in France, she hears God's voice asking her to build Jesus's house as mentioned in the Bible. After returning to Jerusalem, she gets the construction work started.

A greater portion of the book is dedicated to Jenny's works. One thing that attracted me the most is the fact that this book doesn't fail to throw light on the misconducts carried out in the name of religion. We learn that Jenny like many others was a victim of religious manipulations. Though the book is based on Jenny's life, due to the style of narration it reads more like an educational book.

I'll rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. The writer could have described the adventures of Jenny in a more elaborate and interesting way instead of just mentioning them with very few information. As a result, the book failed to inspire me.

Jenny has a very strong and determined personality. Starting from the death of her father, Jenny faces alot of hardships but she stands strong and makes her way through them. Her character is definitely inspiring and teaches us to help those in need.

I didn't find any error in the book and it seems like the book has been professionally edited. Had the narration style been any different, the book would be more interesting and encouraging. The book has an abundance of information about history which will definitely be of some help to people interested in history. Unless someone is closely related to history, I will not suggest them to read this book.
