All joking aside, I love books with a strong setting. It's so true that situations like The Great Depression can reveal strength and character in people. There is so much we take for granted nowadays as far as money and basic necessities.

Yes Owlie, and I'm sure I'd make the right decisions, but just seeing the cliffs that people come to and have to decide to stay or jump really keeps you compassionate when you see someone make the wrong decisions. It's not always easy.

I really enjoyed your review and want to read it. You did a great job of tellING about the book but not really giving anything away.

Thank you @cranej80 I really appreciate that. It was really hard because it's such a riveting story, but to talk about almost anything felt like a spoiler to me, so I just tried to convey my enjoyment if the story to bring in new readers.

As the author, I wanted to chime in and say how much I appreciate the kind words. This was the first book I had ever written. I gained a deep and abiding respect for anyone who writes novels. It was far more difficult than I had anticipated, though it is also oddly addicting. I am glad you enjoyed it and I admit that the first draft needed more polished editing that I simply could not afford. Thankfully, the minor errors did not interfere with your enjoyment.

Mr. Gordon, writing reviews is hard in the sense that you have to point out things that might bother other readers so they trust your recommendations, but I try to tow the line and make sure I'm a reviewer, but never a critic. That being said, you did an amazing job, and I forgot to mention it was your first book. Really, I plan to follow your writing because I liked it that much. Bravo sir, I look forward to reading Absence of Faith and any future stories as well!!

Again, thank you. I agree totally about the need to review honestly and I appreciate it. I like the feedback because it helps me see the forest through the trees in my own writing and helps me to grow.

Great review. I like historical novels, so this one gets my attention. In the narrative, I would prefer good metaphor to simile.
