Sigfried's smelly socks! by Len Foley is a book that can make you throw up your dinner. The comical illustrations made the book interesting and prevented the book from being just a compilation of disgusting things. The size of this book is suitable for kids due to their short attention span. The author also made good use of bright and attractive colors.

Quite a number of kids find dirt irresistible, and parents have a hard time keeping them away from it. This 'dirty' book would definitely find favour with its intended audience.

Sigfried's smelly socks! can be useful in educating kids on types of food and identification of colours. The matching of colours was simple enough for kids to understand. Orange socks was written with orange letters while green socks appeared in green letters and so on. However, I was not pleased when I noticed an error in matching blue socks with purple colour. The error had much weight because the entire book is only 27 pages long. It is obvious that the book was not professionally edited.

Other things of interest in this book include the use of rhymes. I loved the part about turnip clumps and blubber lumps, potato and uncle Kato and so on. Thankfully, Sigfried finally promised to wash his terrible socks with soap. This can have a good influence on kids and help them develop a positive view of cleaning up their dirt.
It is true that the illustrations appeared comical enough. But I feel it would have been better if they had more detail and facial expressions.

I would rate this book 3 out of 4 stars because it was not professionally edited. The illustrations also appeared to be too simple. I would recommend this book to parents and to kids below 5 years. Sigfried's smelly socks! can be entertaining and educative for young minds.
