Teamwork. Collaboration. Name it. That is the name of the trend in the 21st Century that the younger generation should encounter and master daily. With the rise of "Information and Communications Technology" that powerfully connects the people in the planet today, comes the necessity to lead or teach our children to appreciate or understand the value of teamwork. I found for myself a wonderful literary work of art telling me a way how to influence children, age 7 to 12 years old, to value the power of teamwork. R. F. Kristi bears it all in the episode seven of her children book series Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat.

Kristi holds a doctorate degree in economic development. Her professional practice includes experience at the United Nations Children’s Fund. With such an exposure, her prowess and style manifest in the theme of her episode seven of the Inca Book Series. There is a remarkable display of such a convincing concept associated with development. Although children might not be able to fully grasp this view, Kristi integrates the message of advancement, development and success by way of teamwork or collaboration. She executes it in a manner children from a specific age bracket can fully comprehend and enjoy.

There are many things to like most about this children book. In particular, I am captivated by the wit and style of the author. How she uses name, place or symbolism to deliver her concept is striking.

Inca, a Siberian cat from London and the leading character of the story, found herself and her family and animal friends having a vacation in a certain “Island” in Sri Lanka. Such a momentous trip, as it turned out, had a cause. They must investigate the disappearance of a national treasure from a museum on that island. In choosing this type of setting of the story, Kristi stages a notable revelation, one that is commonly found in an adage: No Man is an Island. The heroes in the story found themselves on that island, a solo mass of land. However, contrary to the chosen milieu by the author, the main characters worked together as a functional team. Unlike the island, they found themselves not alone or in solo especially when they played the detective role together. This made them successful in finding the stolen national treasure. On the other hand, "Solo", a well-known human detective, was hired by the museum to investigate and solve the case himself. In the end, it was not Solo, but the smart feline Inca, with the help of her other animal friends, made such an excellent progress in the search of the missing national treasure. These are some points of contrast found in the plot. They effectively serve the purpose of Kristi to expound the value of teamwork.

At the last part of the story, Inca discovered that she could not ascribe all the glory to herself. The success was greatly down to the help of her friends, leading to the recovery of the stolen national treasure from the hands of the thieves. This is a good point of view to ponder not only by children. Every logical human should think about it.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The stunning success of this book cannot only be credited to its storyline, presentation and effective use of the visuals. Above all, it is the author’s wit and style that tell this book is impossible to put down.

This book is designed to develop the critical thinking skills of children and adults alike. The snoopy cat Inca and her detective friends have surely displayed that they possess all the capabilities of human detectives to solve a mystery even before the humans could. Thank you for the insightful review of this book.
