The book Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy cat is a children's book about a group of cats, dogs, a turtle and even an elephant amongst other animals. This is a story that portrays the world of these cute furry cats with their fuzzy paws and their friends as they go on about their lives and in the process, help to solve a crime that has just taken place in their vicinity.
The lead cat who goes by the name 'Inca', is the one in charge of most of the action that takes place and records events on a sort of a diary-like writing which the author manages to bring out pretty well. The book starts off with a detailed introduction of these animal characters alongside their pictures and this helps one to visualize how they look like.
The animals, who live in France are on a trip with their guardian, a lady whom they call Mom, in Sri Lanka. As they tour and enjoy the good times by going around and visiting different places like the beach, they meet Rani, a turtle and Meena the baby elephant. As the animals get to know each other better during their frequent rendezvous, Inca the lead detective cat gets word that a certain antique sword has just been stolen from the local Colombo Museum. This prompts Inca to spring to action as the animals team up together and attempt to unravel the case of the just stolen antique sword and some gold coins. In the process of doing this, each of these animals' unique characteristics comes into focus as each of them makes some very valuable contribution towards solving of the perpetrated crime.
Things don't turn out well at first for Inca as the cat gets lost in a dense Forest at some point and barely manages to escape with her life from a huge python that tries to eat her. In the process of trying to figure the way back home, Inca comes across another set of cat family who are way more bigger, the leopards. Though scared at first of being turned into a snack, the leopards turn out to be friendly to Inca and even manage to guide her back to her home.
I like how the author vividly portrays the different scenes with picture illustrations. I also think the book will be a good read for younger children as they will get to learn how to work as a team and also the importance of having good friends. Kids who are a bit older and exposed to reading higher adrenaline action books however, may not like the book so much as they may deem it to be too simple. I also loved the fact that the book didn't have many grammatical errors and I could only point to not more than 3. The few ancient sites mentioned are a let down somehow, as I believe the author would have spiced up the book more by writing about more of those ancient Heritage sites.
I give the book Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy cat a rating of 4 out of 4 stars as it is indeed an interesting book that people of all ages would enjoy reading and I recommend it especially to parents who like reading stories to their children.
