Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat by R.F Kritsi is the seventh instalment in the Serendipity Mystery series. This book is tailored to be read by the young ones but even adults are at liberty to have a taste of this book. Kristi is obsessed with animals and perhaps this is the main reason that made him “feature’’ animals in this book. The animal stories are catchy and very much interesting.
In this book, the character development is pivoted on a Siberian cat named Inca. She is the head of kitties. Inca is a very detective cat and so she is the boss of a London-based agency known as Inca and Company. Inca’s mom takes her and the other siblings to Sri-Lanka for a vacation. While on the vacation, a sword goes missing from a museum back in London. Inca uses her opportunity in this foreign trip to solve the mystery of this sword that goes missing. Her friends equally supports her in using her detective know-how to solve this dark mystery.
The author’s makes this story colorful by setting it in various locations. The story occurs in London and later moves to Sri-Lanka where Inca and members of her family are on a vacation. The author equally infuses personification in this book thus making it even more interesting. The author is smart enough to narrate the the story from an animal’s, cat’s, point of view. I think this is very important since most children are fond of the cat. The bright and colorful pictures lubricates a child’s pace of reading the story. I loved how the author blends both the detective skills and the adventures of the cat to come up with a fine mix of a story.
Socialism and teamwork are encouraged in this book especially where Inca coordinates with the detective agency team in trapping the thieves behind the theft of the sword. She also employs the help from her friends so as achieve a common goal. This is very important in teaching children on the value of unity and teamwork. This book is generally easy to read and follow. The author introduces the characters and then he goes ahead to describe each of them making it easy to identify with them.
Children may be terrified after reading the point where Inca encounters dangerous reptiles like the snake and the python. I believe that this is a great drawback to this great book. Anyway, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars since it has met most requirements for a children’s story. I believe that this book is good for children as it will promote teamwork, adventure and love for animals. Therefore, I would dedicate Serendipity Mystery to the children.
