Serendipity mystery: diary of a snoopy cat (INCA cat detective series book 7) by R.F. Kristi

This is the first book I read in the INCA cat detective series and yet, I did not feel left behind. Sure, there is a few references to previous adventures, but it’s not enough to feel left out. There is also provided a family tree in the beginning of the book, which makes it easier to follow the family relations. On top of that, there’s also a detailed roster for the Inca & Company, so you get a clear understanding of who everyone is.

Queen of Kitties: Inca, the Siberian Detective Cat is going on holiday with her mum (owner) and her siblings: Cara, Charlotte and Fromage. The family are enjoying an exotic holiday in Sri Lanka. It all seems to be exiting and chilled until Inca learns that an antique sword and gold coins have been stolen from the local museum. Mum’s friend, Solo, is hired to investigate and solve the crime, so he and his dog Terrance joins them in Sri Lanka. As Inca is head of their detective company she cannot just sit idly by and thus, all the furry detectives get involved. Inca and her furry family makes new friends, Meena a baby elephant and Rani, a turtle. These new friends prove to be natural detectives, and a great help in solving the mystery.

Personally, I really enjoyed this children’s mystery book. It is filled with excitement, friendship, loyalty and even one or two angst filled moments. With the narrator being the Queen of Kitties herself, the story is told in the “first person” – sorry, “first cat” purrspective, which makes it humorous, exciting and detailed. It's also worth mentioning the amazing illustrations, that constantly had my mental images beat. So, even if you don't enjoy the book it's hard not to love the images.

I don’t have any children myself, but this book is purrfect for my niece and nephew. They’re both cat lovers and very into solving crime (they discovered who ate the missing cookie in 1 hour) – so I’ll make sure to read this to them, next time I babysit. Actually, since the book is so easy to read we might just end up reading it together. At age 6 and 8 there are very few words they won’t know or be able to pronounce, and the ones they don’t know I can help them with, which would make it even better and more enjoyable, for us to share this great book.

The vocabulary used is a little repetitive, not enough to steal the focus from the plot, and since it is a children’s book I honestly don’t think it will be an issue. I don't usually like children's books but this one was great, which is why I rate this kitty mystery 4 out of 4 stars - which is so well deserved and I will be recommending it for children aged 6 – 10 who likes mystery and animals.
