Mom & Dad Are Always Right by Aimee Andren is a children’s book. This book is composed of five poems. The author takes us on a journey with Pete and June. Pete and June struggle to understand why their mom and dad give them rules. They try to get out of brushing their teeth, eating their vegetables, taking care of their pet, going to bed, and being nice to one another. They try many different ways to show Mom and Dad that they are old enough and don't need rules but learn Mom and Dad are always right.

The author put together a cute story for children; however, I thought the poems lacked consistent rhythm. The majority of the book was 8 or 9 syllables, but often an oddball of 7, 10, or 11 syllables was thrown in. This threw off the beat while reading, which I think is very important in children's books. On a positive note, the poems were an introduction to some of the proper behaviors needed for a well-balanced child.

The illustrations in the book by Mike Quinones were absolutely adorable. I really enjoyed looking at the characters.

I rated the book 3 out of 5 primarily due to its lack of cadence. With poetry, it often is grammatically incorrect on an intentional level, so I did not correct any grammar errors. I did not see any spelling errors. The book represented some key rules for children to understand and follow. The message was a suitable subject, and I credit the author on these choices of topics.

The book is best suited for younger children under the age of 10. This short story would be a quick read for your children at bedtime. There are some bigger words in the book that they may struggle with, like "practically." However, that can be a wonderful learning tool
