What Did You Do At School Today? It is a cute children’s book by C.C. Lacavera. The red cover with an illustration of happy children in a school bus grabbed my attention. Having three children of my own, asking how the school day went is a familiar question in our household. Some kids dread talking about their day after school and respond unenthusiastically with one word. The author introduces creative ways to talk about the school day through a poem.

What I liked most about this book is that it is fun to read. Every page consists of children doing different activities: playing instruments, learning math, playing outside, and working on a craft. I also liked that the author included many activities that would not happen during a school day. One example is a page with children on a huge ship meeting pirates. These parts of the book are very engaging and creative. It lightens up the question and encourages children to use their imagination.

What I liked least about this book is that the ebook did not automatically adjust to fit my Kindle app. This was the only issue I had, but it does not take away from the quality of this book. The book cover automatically adjusted to fullscreen, and I could turn the first page, but the following pages would not properly fit my laptop or handheld device screens. I can zoom into the digital copy, but this prevented the page from turning. This book would be great as a hard copy to add to my child’s bookshelf.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars because it is fun to read and look at! There are no grammar or spelling errors; this book is professionally written and edited. Even though I had to keep adjusting the pages to zoom in and then zoom back out to turn the page, I would not count that against the author. This could be an issue with how my specific devices formatted this ebook.

I recommend this book to young readers ages 0-8. The colorful and vibrant illustrations on every page make this an engaging book to read out loud to children who cannot read. I do not recommend this book to older children who are not interested in colorful picture books or who do not enjoy reading poems. This book would be great to have in an elementary school classroom.
