Review of Stevie Tenderheart Books WAIT A MINUTE! (An Illustrated Novella)
“Stevie Tenderheart Books Wait a Minute! (An Illustrated Novella)” tells the story of a silly little boy named Stevie Tenderheart. Stevie adored his bed because it allowed him to do everything he enjoyed: sleep, jump, dream, and grow. Stevie loved his bed so much that he decided to bring all of his other favorite things into it. But—WAIT A MINUTE!—it is such a small bed. Will all of Stevie's favorite toys, pets, and dolls fit in his tiny bed? Read the book to find out.
Steve William Laible created this book with kids in mind, particularly those with a really vivid imagination. Stevie was portrayed as a boy with a vivid imagination so relating to his story would be familiar. He loved to have his best toys and animals in his bed and would imagine them right there in bed with him. The illustrations depicting these scenes made the whole story feel even more alive. This allowed for the story to move along smoothly, with the colorful pictures bringing the stories to life.
Another thing I enjoyed was the simple language and funny made-up words that were used. The magic spell Stevie used to fill his bed with his favorite things was one such example. Because this group of words contains immense power, a warning is given that the spell shouldn’t be said aloud, or else your bed could be filled with many creatures. This adds a layer of fantasy to the story, increasing the sense of thrill the story provides.
The fact that many different creatures were introduced in this story gave the opportunity to highlight the characteristics of such animals. This makes it possible for readers to learn about these various animals. Woodpeckers pecking, deer antlers scratching and toads jumping were some things Stevie considered when he thought of inviting these animals into his bed. I believe this is a really fun way to properly learn the characteristics and behaviors of many different animals.
I truly enjoyed this book and have nothing negative about it. I also did not encounter any errors while reading; therefore, I award it 5 out of 5 stars. This book can be read to kids at bedtime and can also be read alone by older kids who can read. It will serve as a good teaching resource.
