M. Jackson, Lucky, Mr. Beckham, and Peanut’s “The Very Hungry Beagles Guide to Poop” is a fun and humorous journey into the world of canine mischief and curiosity. This book is a must-read if you enjoy dry, hilarious humor and don’t get easily grossed out by the less glamorous parts of being a dog owner.

This humorous guide offers an entertaining look at the different kinds of excrement dogs may meet. It is written from the viewpoint of four beagles who have a taste for the more dubious treats they stumble upon on their walks. The beagles’ lively and cheeky storytelling of their exploits makes an otherwise uninteresting subject matter endlessly entertaining.

What I liked the most in this book is that the narrative centers on the adventures of three famished beagles, who find endless joy in smelling, eating, and rolling in various trash materials—much to the dismay of their remarkably perceptive human butler. The novel strikes the perfect balance between being cruel enough to amuse children while still being amusing enough to make adults chuckle. This book is about more than just dog poop—it’s about the pure happiness that dogs offer us.

There is nothing to dislike in this book, and I did not come across any shortcomings while reading it. Children will find this book particularly engaging, especially those who have a taste for the gross and silly. Young readers will be giggling (and maybe groaning) from start to finish as the vivid and humorous detail of the beagles’ escapades unfolds. Moreover, the book offers little nuggets of information about the animals the beagles interact with, making it educational as well as entertaining.

Adults, especially dog owners who have experienced their pets’ fascination with the less savory parts of their walks, will find themselves laughing out loud. The relatable anecdotes and dry humor make this book a fun read for anyone who knows the joys and tribulations of having a dog. Friends of the beagles have tested the content and found it laugh-out-loud funny, seeing the real-life incidents come to life in a humorous way.

I did not find any errors, as the book was professionally edited by the author. Hence, I rate this book 5 out of 5. It’s a must-read.
