Puffy and the Formidable Foe is an entertaining and educative story for children written by Marie G. Lepkowski and Ann Marie Hannon. The story is centered on Puffy who had quite an adventure when he played away from home and learnt a great lesson at the end of the day. Puffy learns that skunks leave a terrible odor only when he encounters one and has to have a bath that he does not like just to get rid of the odor. He decides it is better to play at home rather than away from home where he may encounter other foes as formidable as the skunk.

I like that Puffy and the Formidable Foe is easy to read and understand. It gives kids a new set of words to learn. It also teaches them to learn and identify rhyming words. At the end of the story, there is an additional page that allows children to color the main character of the story. It is filled with different colored drawings so that children can learn to appreciate and identify colors. Also they can learn to associate certain colors with certain items such as grasses being green and the sky being blue.

I like the coloring segment best because it allows children imaginations to flourish in the aspect of deciding what they want Puffy to look like. Their Puffy could be orange, black, green or whatever crazy color they choose. Puffy could even have a mixture of colors. This would bring out the artistic side to kids.

The story is well designed that there is nothing to dislike about it. The grammar is well constructed, there are no typographic errors and the sentences are easy to understand. With these in mind, I have no other choice but to rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.

I have given the rating of 4 out of 4 stars because, as earlier written, there is nothing to dislike about the story. It well written, easy to understand, colorful, entertaining and educative. Also, children get to learn that skunks give off a bad odor to scare things they consider their foes.

This book will appeal most to children from the ages of 2 to 9 years. It will also appeal to parents who are looking for educative reading materials for kids. I encourage parents to make this story book a part of their children libraries so that have a wonderful bedtime story while learning new words too.

I agree with most of your review. However, I did not find all of the sentences easy to understand for young children. It uses a lot of advanced words such as ensue, obscene, and episode.
