Puffy and the formidable foe is a book written by Marie G. Lepkowski, Ann M. Hannon and Margaret B. Hannon. This is a third edition book - that was revised on - 11th April 2006. It has been illustrated by: Ann M. Hannon and Margaret B. Hannon. It is available as a softcopy, hardcover and EBook; all having been published by Xlibris.
The story of Puffy and the formidable foe is all about a cat that goes off to hunt for a rat and meets the unexpected. The first creature that this amazing cat meets is a mole that is in a hole. I believe the mole and hole are included purposely to create a rhyming scheme therefore, bringing about a poetic or musical effect to the book. Puffy learns the hard way about the dangers of roaming from home no matter how lonely he feels. This book will teach kids the importance of staying at home and not wandering around unaccompanied by an adult. It will also teach them about the importance of cleanliness.
This book will make you fall in love with cats (that is if you already have not). It arouses feelings of extreme excitement as one travels down the memory lane to ones childhood days. The writers of this book chose the characters wisely; a skunk, a cat and mole. The skunk and the mole are almost passive characters and therefore the kids reading this book will not end up confused. The words that may seem challenging to kids are underlined so that they can check them out.
The cover and the fact that the book was only sixteen pages are what drew me to the book. The cover has an almost nostalgic yet surprisingly pleasing picture of a tremendously lovely cat that one i assumed to be puffy. On the sides of the cat are beauteous colored curtains drawn and tied. I was curious when I saw the number of pages the book had. I could not believe that it was possible to narrate a story in only sixteen pages (pictures included) and pass the point across at the end of it all but the authors of this book proved me otherwise. The fact that the book was written by three authors is enough to show that no detail was left to chance.
I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars because it has been properly edited. I highly recommend the book to kids. The English used is simple and friendly. Attractively colored pictures have also been included for illustration. A sixteen paged book can be read as a bed time story without boring the child to sleep. It can be guaranteed that the book will be over even before the child begins yawning. A bird from the book also whispered in my ear that there is an extra page that allows the child to color puffy. What else could excite a kid more than this? Puffy and the formidable foe is what I would like to describe as a kids haven.

Hahaha, cats are great! I think cat people prefer them due to their cuddling nature. Great review Marylynn, a nice bedtime story for kids indeed.juliusotinyo wrote:I can't stand cats. But my kids adore them, maybe this is the book for me. I hate the purring, the sleepiness, they are unpredictable.
