Would you like to have a dinosaur in your bed? Well, Stevie Tenderheart Books WAIT A MINUTE! (An Illustrated Novella) by Steve William Laible is a story about a small boy with a big imagination. As he is tucking himself in for the night, he comes up with a myriad of silly ideas. The little tyke considers filling his bed with all of his favorite things. From balls to barnyard animals and even snacks, the possibilities are endless, but just as soon as Stevie decides to put something amid his mattress and sheets, he realizes why a bed is no place for such things! Then his mother comes in to check on him, and he will have to settle down and sleep.

On the cover, there is a cartoon drawing of Stevie in his bed with a strange-looking dinosaur sitting with him. The baby dinosaur is wearing a diaper, and there is also a pterodactyl and a tortoise in the scene. The black background with white lettering makes this design unusual and eye-catching among children’s books. This book is meant to be read as a bedtime story. Since there is no religious messaging or inappropriate content, youngsters from any background can enjoy this quirky tale.

I love the bright-colored fonts and cute illustrations within the book. I appreciate the personal touch as the author included a photo of himself when he was a young child. I like the fact that the story is told with fun and memorable rhymes, reminiscent of Dr. Seuss’s famous books. Mr. Laible also encourages kids to eat healthy foods, with only a few sweet snacks mentioned in the text. I also found myself chuckling at the creative “blooper reel” at the end of the story. Like directors do when filming movies, instructions were given to Stevie and his animal friends as they enact each scene.

There is nothing I disliked about this delightful storybook. I only have one minor criticism. Near the end of the book, when the author mentions his charitable works, he uses an odd acronym to describe his mission. “SMOG” stands for “Stevie’s Messages of Grace.” Considering the definition for the word “smog” is “fog or haze caused by pollution,” I think Mr. Laible could have come up with a better acronym.

Nonetheless, I am pleased to award Stevie Tenderheart Books WAIT A MINUTE! (An Illustrated Novella) by Steve William Laible a rating of five out of five stars. This fun book series has been lauded by celebrity parents, like Johnny Depp, and it has even been praised by the British royal family! I’m sure little ones will really like it too! I look forward to reading more of Stevie’s imaginative adventures.
