The Very Hungry Beagles Guide to Poop by M. Jackson, Lucky, Mr. Beckham, and Peanut is a humorous children’s book covering a rather peculiar topic: which animal’s poop is the overall best, according to the narrative voices of two dogs. I must say, you’re in for a laugh!

What I love most about this book is that there are such pretty and colourful pages! I adore the fun illustrations and the fact that the block of text on every page has coloured backgrounds. It’s so artistic, and it definitely keeps you hooked. Speaking of keeping you hooked, the author writes in a very engaging style that keeps you interested the whole way through.

I certainly felt like I was reading a research paper, what with all the analysis of the poops of different animals! I suppose it is slightly informative. Pro tip: don’t read this while eating; you’ll find your appetite gone. Trust me, I’m speaking from experience.

The final page of The Very Hungry Beagles Guide to Poop features a lovely list of all the poops at the end, in order of most preferable to least. The narrators did their research and reached a plausible conclusion.

To conclude, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. The author has done a spectacular job of writing an amusing children’s book on a strange topic. The drawings and the use of colour are absolutely wonderful, and I didn’t want to put this book down until I finished it. I have absolutely nothing negative to say—the book’s even free of grammatical errors! Saying that, this book is definitely for readers aged 8 and above. There are longer sentences and a few complex words, which may be an obstacle for younger readers but a learning opportunity for those at the recommended age. A brilliant book overall!
