Stevie Tenderheart Books: Wait a Minute! (An Illustrated Novella) by Steve William Laible. The story introduces us to Stevie, a little boy who loves his bed. Stevie dreams about bringing to his bed his favorite animals and other things. What will come out of Stevie’s ideas? Get a copy of this book to find out!

I liked the short rhymes in which Stevie’s story is penned. They are easy to comprehend and stimulate imagination so that children can learn the names of animals, toys, and other objects. The integrated illustrations support the verbal messages and help children relate the words to the images.

I also liked how Steve William Laible plays with children in this book, balancing the exhilaration of mischief with the “Wait a Minute!” cooling-off breaks and gradually conveying the milder get-to-sleep mood as Stevie is getting tired and wants to sleep.

The awesome illustrations in this book deserve special praise. Talented Nancy Watson did a great job of bringing Stevie and all his dreams to life in her colorful drawings.

Stevie Tenderheart Books: Wait a Minute! (An Illustrated Novella) is a part of the Stevie Tenderheart Books series, but it reads perfectly standalone. As with other books in the series, Stevie’s character is very likable and a great choice to teach children, by Stevie’s example, not to bring cats, dogs, toads, snacks, or anything else to their beds! Importantly, Stevie delivers this message himself, and he comes to this conclusion after considering what would happen to his bedtime comfort if he did.

The book was professionally edited, as I only spotted a couple of minor typographical errors. It is praiseworthy on all counts, and I cannot fault any aspect of it. So, I happily give this lovely, gentle, humorous, mischievous, animal-loving, educational, ingenuous, and entertaining story five out of five stars.

I highly recommend this awesome book to children, parents, teachers, and child-caregivers.
