A bedroom floor metamorphoses into a sea where pirates populate; a boring blanket changes into an unparalleled superhero cape; so does a bed. And it is this kind—euphemistically called childhood maximalism—of playfulness that Steve William Laible portrays in his remarkable Stevie Tenderheart series, clearly demonstrated in an illustrated case of Wait a Minute!

The premise is simple enough: Stevie is crazy about his bed. It serves him as a sanctuary, and the idea of ever leaving it scares him to death. Using the unchecked logic of a child, Stevie concludes that the answer is cute—bring everything else he adores into bed! Therefore, it produced an anamorphic, kaleidoscopic crescendo of puppies, dinosaurs, robots, a mountain of snacks, and so on. But as the bed begins to groan and the space shrinks, a universal truth of childhood is revealed: at other times, you may wonder if there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. However, Stevie not only lacks honor and virtue; he’s as energetic as ever. These draw or enumerate the energy in the pictures with vibrant colors and vivacious compositions that turn Stevie's messed-up bed into a visual feast of sorts that would beg for a closer inspection. Such a celebration of children's imaginative power makes the story favorable for young readers and, at the same time, inspiring. Everyone indeed loves the idea of amassing every item they treasure together in the same lovely space.

Thematically, he sees to it that the story contains a subtle, calming message. Stevie's mind—that even the best things are the best when shared—is thus a reminder of the critical importance of consideration towards others. Nevertheless, what makes it different is not the message but the way the narration is done. Stevie's revelation is something that develops spontaneously from a fast-deteriorating life that looks more like a genuine discovery than a blatantly communicated moral.

I would rate Stevie Tenderheart Books WAIT A MINUTE! (An Illustrated Novella) 5 out of 5 stars. That is, it is a true symbol of the boundless imagination of childhood—the omnipresent kind that makes the ordinary into the extraordinary. The story speaks about the significance of simple pleasures, a helping hand, and a warm nighttime reading that leaves kids and adults giggling. The book was edited professionally with no mistakes found, and I can't think of any criticism of this book.
