Review of Doctoroo & the Case of the Hacking Hippo
Doctoroo and the Case of the Hacking Hippo by Dr. Rachel B. Wellner is an educational and entertaining children’s book. Children will not only enjoy the interesting storyline of Doctoroo and the superhero opera singer, Hilda Hippo but will also learn life lessons they and their guardians will get.
Terence Toad, Dr. Marsha Roo (Doctoroo), Louie Llama, and Kirby Koala are all in Dr. Marsha’s office when Louie Llama hands a letter to Dr. Marsha. The letter is from the Sydney Opera House in Sydney, Australia, requesting Dr. Marsha to attend Hilda Hippo’s concert. They are all thrilled and they accompany Dr. Marsha Roo to the concert. After their arrival, the show between Geoffrey and Hilda starts, where they sing a lovely song to the audience. After they are done, Hilda’s solo song is slotted next on the playlist. As she is singing, she starts to cough, then hack. Luckily, Dr. Marsha Roo, aka Doctoroo, is in the building to save the day. But do they find out what is wrong with Hilda Hippo on time so she can perform before The Queen of England?
What I liked the most about this children’s book was the collaboration that Doctoroo and his team displayed. Together, they were able to brainstorm and find out what Hilda Hippo was suffering from. Therefore, children will be able to appreciate the importance of teamwork with their friends or family in achieving specific goals or solving their problems. I also loved the brightly colored pictures the author used to complement her narration. They attracted me and piqued my curiosity to read more and find out what the author was talking about.
There is nothing I liked the least about this book. Instead, I appreciate the author’s efforts to educate children about germs, their characteristics, how they can contract them and where they are found. The information that the children learn will help them apply it to make sure they stay away from germs and stay free from diseases. I also loved Geoffrey’s and Hilda Hippo’s duo song. They confessed what they loved about each other as they promised not to do bad things against each other. Children will, therefore, learn what true friendship looks like and emulate it with their friends.
The book was exceptionally edited since I did not find any grammatical errors. From all the incredible lessons the children get to learn, I award this book five out of five stars. I recommend Doctoroo and the Case of the Hacking Hippo to children between the ages of four and twelve since the lessons they will learn will help them stay safe and healthy. I also recommend it to parents and guardians since they could benefit from the lessons children under their care would emulate.
