This is a review for “Snatched Up to Heaven for Kids”.

I give this book two stars out of five.

I first want to say that the art style was lovely and simple. Kids would enjoy looking at the pictures, and they describe what is written well. They were attention-grabbing and well done. However, the imagery isn’t creative, nor are the descriptions within the book.

The writing style seems quite juvenile. I’m unsure how old the author is, but they seem inexperienced. There isn’t really any moral in the story except that you should love God or you will go to hell. Children’s books should have cause and effect plots, simple actions with good or bad consequences, so they understand the plot/moral. This is how kids learn and this is how they stay engaged with the story. This book did not have that. It just copied things from the bible, described asinine things that happened and had no creative flair.

Children’s books should provide new knowledge, teach a child about the world or themselves and increase critical thinking. I don’t believe this book did that well. Kids would just be ingesting information about God without actually feeling the intended message. I think the authors should have emphasised why God is good and showed that in actions rather than words. Children understand actions.

It read like a clunky script. If the lines were acted out it would feel false and more like an info dump than an actual conversation. I understand it was a children’s book, but the characters also had no depth and didn’t seem interesting. There was also nothing to them except their love for God.

It also felt a little bit like a warning, “love God or else”. I think if it’s intended for children, then they should show why they should love God rather than just telling them to or else they will go to hell.
