Have you ever wondered about the quality and likeability of all the different animals’ poop? How does it taste? What is its texture like? For the people with these questions – it’s your lucky day! I have found the perfect book for you. Beagles Mr. Beckham, Peanut, and Lucky have compiled a list of their favorite animals’ poop, as well as some they aren’t too fond of.

In their guide, they provide a comprehensive list of all the different kinds of poop they’ve tried and rate them accordingly. The ratings are based on smell, taste, texture, and how rare they are. Then, they add it all up and give each animal an overall score out of twenty. The Very Hungry Beagles Guide to Poop by M. Jackson and his beagle friends is a great read for kids!

I can’t say I have ever really thought much about animal poop. I didn’t realize it was important enough to dogs that they needed to make a whole guide detailing the best textures, smells, and tastes. Although I suppose anything is better than the boring kibble some dogs are fed daily. In their guide, the beagles even talk about how their owners – or “butlers” – feel about the smells of each animal’s poop.

I think this is a great idea for a book. Not only does it expose children to all different kinds of animals, but it also teaches them about the lifestyles of the animals. They learn that possums eat from fruit trees in the summer, and hedgehogs enjoy eating invertebrates like slugs, snails, and beetles. I even learned that baby hedgehogs are called hoglets! How cute is that?

This book was very well-written, as the sentences are clear and easy to understand. I believe the fantastic watercolor illustrations included in the book will captivate children and they will find the book funny. It was exceptionally well-edited, as I found no errors whatsoever, and I could think of nothing negative to say about the book. So, for the reasons mentioned above, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

I recommend this book to parents looking for cute and easy-to-read books to give their little ones. The writing is simple enough that children will be able to understand and appreciate the book.
