Snatched Up to Heaven by Jemima Paul and Arvind Paul is a lovely and fascinating book. It's a 35-page story about an adorable 8-year-old girl named Emma and her family. Emma wakes up excited after having a very special dream in which she soars through the clouds and arrives in a stunning place called heaven, where she goes on a variety of adventures. The narrative continues as she talks to her parents and sister about her experiences and how they listen and discuss about her dreams.
I liked this story as it is very simple yet captivating. I believe the easy writing and beautiful, vibrant images will appeal to children. However, I would say that some of the pages' paragraphs were too large, making it possibly difficult or boring for the children to read on their own. I loved how the author depicts a perfect family, where the parents acknowledge and encourage Emma's dreams and readily explain her dream with biblical phrases. I also appreciate the author's use of visuals of not only heaven and but also hell to express both good and bad aspects.
Being a Christian myself, I was able to relate to this book and easily comprehend the biblical narratives. The moral of the story is that following Jesus and doing what is right will bring you eternal happiness in heaven, while doing the opposite and not repenting of your sins may land you in hell. Therefore, I believe that this book would be ideal for Christian parents who want to teach their kids about Jesus. However, I do believe that not everyone will find this book to be their cup of tea, especially given the story's religious overtones.
I would suggest this book to anyone looking for children's books about Jesus.
