I read it with an open mind as I'm not a religious person but have as a kid been both baptised and confirmed.
In my opinion the book has great illustrations with both good colors and representations of people and surroundings. Which I think is a positive thing for kids to be familiarised with.
I also think that it is good to reference and quote the bible since it is a story that aims to teach kids about the Christian religion. With that said, it seems to me that the message of the book is very black and white: you either believe in God and Jesus and go to heaven or you don't and go to hell. From my perspective this does not allow the children to explore Christianity on their own out of curiosity but rather might scare them into it out of fear of everything else.
For me especially the ending note tgat is directed to the parents gave me the impression of an ultimatum with the quote that follows: "God's patience will eventually run out. Please don't take that chance - with your own salvation or that of your children"
For me this is not a statement to be put in a book with the aim to teach children about the religion. I belive that the aim in children's books should be about creating curiosity about the subject and allowing them to learn and explore the topic through the book but also on their own. Where is, as ive said previously, my feeling while reading the book was that it was telling me "this is what you should do and this is how you should do it".
I do believe that with some editing and some rephrasing it is possible for the book and this story to change the way it comes across and create that learning opportunity for the children reading.
