Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures by Catherine Anna Pepe is a fiction book about Donny and his elder sister, Mary Grace. Donny and Mary Grace lived with their parents in Wichita, Kansas, but they left Wichita to live with their grandparents in California. This is because their parents went to do missionary work in Africa for two years. Donny adjusted well to California. He enjoyed spending time with his grandparents and sharing marbles with his new friends. On the other hand, Mary Grace doesn't like California and constantly begs her parents to return to Wichita. Mary Grace gets bullied by an unknown person. She wanted to sweep everything under the rug but changed her mind when the situation worsened. Mary Grace decided to solve the mystery and asked Grandma Gang and her friend to help her identify the bully. Will she succeed in her mission? Read the book to find out.

I was hooked on this book from beginning to end. The book was interesting, and the author's writing style was easy to read and understand. The author did an excellent job ensuring the novel's characters were well-developed. I express my gratitude to the author for vividly describing the scenes. It allowed readers to have an easy time following the story. My favorite character is Donny. His positive attitude made me like him so much. Seeing how he positively took the news of his parents going to help vulnerable people in Africa and him going to live with his grandparents was so heartwarming. I liked how the author portrayed Donny as a positive and happy child. I wish everyone with a disability could be as positive as Donny. I appreciated how Donny said, "This is the new best day of my life." I also liked Mary Grace. Her problem-solving skills were top-notch for a young child. Lastly, I liked how the teacher assigned friend of the day to new students.

The book was well-written. I didn't find anything to dislike about the book. I applaud the author for coming up with a great story.

I didn't find any spelling or grammar errors in this book. I think the book was well-edited. I found this novel so fascinating that I didn't want to leave it until I finished reading it. For those reasons, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

I recommend this book to younger readers who like adventure fiction books. I also recommend it to everyone who enjoys reading fiction books about the lives of people with Down Syndrome.
