Why Did Buffy's Fur Go Flat? by Erin Hill and Dr. Russ Hills is a colorful children's book that aims to inspire young and old readers to understand the connection between the environment's health and their own. The book presents crucial information about the impact of chemicals in food and how the environment's sickness affects our food. It does so in a fun and engaging way through a rhyming format and vibrant illustrations. Jade, our protagonist, conveys the book's message beautifully. One day, she is surprised to find her cat sick and seeks help. While uncovering the mystery of her cat's sickness, Jade learns that to improve her cat's health, she also must help the environment feel better.

I always love to read children's books, hoping to find great options to read to the little ones in my life. I must say that this one will go on that list. The illustrations by Sky Kezmoh were a delight to flip through. I especially liked the first illustrations of the sea. I was surprised at the end of the book to see an additional note about the illustrator, in which I learned about the inspiration behind her work for this book. I won't go into detail to avoid spoiling the moment for upcoming readers. However, I want to say that it was a lovely touch that made me feel more connected to the book and appreciate the illustrations even more. The rhyming format made what could be a challenging topic to understand a fun learning moment. The authors believe that children must learn about this issue since they can be the voice of our future and a big instigator for change. They capture this perfectly by showing our protagonist taking action at the end of the book and wanting to make a difference. I hope you read this book and learn how she did that.

My only constructive remark is the lack of a glossary. I truly believe that readers can learn a lot from this book. Having a lexicon would add to the learning experience. The adults could have support to explain some of the words to the younger readers, and the older children would be able to extend and solidify their knowledge of the subject.

I recommend this book to younger and older readers who enjoy an educational, fun read. I agree with the authors' evaluation that it is for elementary and above readers. This book is a valuable addition to the subject and an exemplary fit for a school reading or project.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. This book has everything and more expected for its target of educating the readers on a highly urgent matter. It has information, entertaining rhymes that retain the reader, and beautiful illustrations that keep everything together. The book editing was excellent, as I could not detect any grammar or typographical errors.
