When we talk about God and Jesus to our children/grandchildren who are young and impressionable, we want to take a positive approach. I loved the idea of this book, more needs to be written about Heaven so children have clarity. The approach to a delicate topic through the eyes of a child was met with creativity. “Snatched up to Heaven for Kids” I rate a 3 out of 5 for several reasons I do not recommend reading to children under 10 years old. The word “Snatched” is harsh for a title for a children’s book. “Emma Dreams of Heaven” would be better and more kind to parents who want to read and teach their children. Throughout the story, I had to reread some sentences because of poor use of punctuation which can be frustrating when reading to a child. The topic was poorly researched even for a children’s book, When the author says, “He had a red thing, kind of like a belt across his shoulder and around his waist.” That “thing” is called a tunic. We are trying to teach children and I feel using the correct verbiage would be beneficial. Even though it was a child speaking the proper word for the “thing” could be put in parentheses (a tunic) also the pictures in the story are great I love them however it shows Jesus wearing a sash, not a tunic. I feel there was no closure to this story, it just stopped, and on a negative about hell. Jesus believes that all people, even the bad can be saved.
The “Parents” statement at the end of the story felt quickly written and kind of demanding what parents should do. Expression to the parents of the Word of God could be explained in detail, especially to the parents who are new to the Word of God. God is a wonderful person to educate people about.
