This book has beautiful and colorful illustrations that match the details in the writing. The images create a great visual element that will interest children. I like how the bible verses are intertwined with the storyline and bridge a connection to the main character’s description of heaven. While the storyline is told through the eyes of a child, the parents in the story help make the connection to bible verses creating a concrete understanding of the words of God. I thought the beginning to the middle of the text was uplifting and educational for its target audience. It simplifies the meaning of heaven and worship in a way that children can understand easily. Although I understood the need to discuss “hell”, I felt this section of the book had too much detail. The character describes scenes that might be scary for a child under a certain age group to hear. I think a shorter, and more generalized description would be just as effective for the audience. In my opinion, this section placed a negative connotation toward the end of the story which took away from the uplifting energy the rest of the book had. I would give this book a 4 out of 5 rating for a few reasons. The first reason is the detail and likability of the illustrations for its audience. The second reason is the reader-friendly text, which takes a large concept and simplifies it in a creative way for children. The last reason is the attention to detail and how closely it’s related to the word of God. My reason for 4 out of 5 and not a perfect 5 out of 5 is because of the negative connotation I felt towards the end of the text reading the specific section I discussed earlier. Again, I felt this took away from the uplifting energy of the book. Overall, I would recommend parents to purchase this book to read to their children.
