<r>Mr. and Mrs. Miller have been given an unusual assignment to be missionaries for the Episcopal Church in Africa for two years. They will be away in Kenya for two years, and they'll be leaving Mary Grace and Donny with Grandma Cathy and Papa Steve in California. It was a tough decision to make, but they made it anyway, and soon enough, they were able to get their angry daughter to see the reasons why they had to go on the assignment.<br/>
<I><s></s>Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures by Catherine A. Pepe<e></e></I> is a dynamic book with a great sense of humor expressed by the characters, mostly Mary Grace. I love the innocence and positivity around Donny; he's so kind and enthusiastic. Their parents traveled to Africa for their mission, and they traveled to meet their grandparents in California.<br/>
<br/>
They are now settled in California, and their grandparents have registered them at a new school. Donny gets a very good welcome in his class and has a memorable first day experience at their new school. Mary Grace didn't get the sort of good treat that Donny received on her first day, and just when she was getting to be friends with Penelope and Tiffany, an issue surfaced—a mystery that needed to be solved. Investigations started; the culprits were discovered, and Mary Grace was thrilled that her "shoebox" idea had helped in solving the mystery.<br/>
There is nothing I dislike about this book. It's such a great blend of love, kindness, humor, sadness, fear, and responsibility. A very educational and practical read on the subject of bullying, especially among children, and a practical approach to tackling the stigma of inequality against those with special needs<br/>
<br/>
Every human is unique and has special gifts. Mary Grace is such a kind and respectful character with a big heart. I loved how she figured out the solution to the mystery and also how she considered the well-being of even the very people who hurt her. I couldn't stop wishing for a daughter as loving as she is—maybe someday when I start making babies.<br/>
<br/>
I'm rating this book <B><s></s>5 out of 5 stars.<e></e></B> It was exceptionally edited, as I couldn't find any errors in it. It was a gripping read, and I couldn't get myself to pause at any point until I had read the last word.<br/>
<br/>
I strongly recommend this book to parents and children. This is a very practical book on the subject of love and kindness; it also teaches the importance of sensitizing our kids to the consequences of bullying.</r>
