Review of Snatched Up to Heaven for Kids
This is a great book for kids to learn from and it can help them understand and reflect back on their religion of Christianity in an easier way. The way the story starts out is something many children can relate back to—listening to their parents tell them a bedtime story before they go to sleep. This book is really easy to understand for children, and the pictures are great as well. This book introduces important characters in the Bible such as Noah and Queen of Esther. These inclusions can make children more inclined to study and learn more about Christianity and develop a faith towards God. I would only recommend this book if you want to implement your Christian beliefs onto your children and not if you are trying to let your children make the decision for themselves in the future. Although I do support the positive message of this book, there are certain images in the book (don’t worry, they are not overly graphic) but I feel that it can be scary to some young kids, especially kids who are extremely prone to nightmares. Additionally, even if the pictures and description of hell is true and accurate to the Bible, scaring young children in believing God may not be the way you want to direct them into your religion. Of course, everyone has different ways to parent, so this book is perfect if your family is heavy on religion and involves the kids in it as well. The plot of this book revolves around two kids—Bella and Emma—whose families are very religious and faithful to God and the Bible. Emma dreams of heaven and excitedly tells her family about her experience there; she later on also dreams about hell and Satan and quickly shares the news to her family. Her sister, Bella, is very curious and asks her many questions; her parents are curious as well and ask many questions about it. So, finally, this book is very religious, and I understand that some families prefer not to put that onto their kids, so just understand the gist of the story and main message before reading this book as a nice bedtime story. But, this book is great and can make kids understand more about the Bible and it’s stories of Jesus because it explains it in a way that is easily understandable to kids. So, overall I would rate this book a 3 out of 5, considering multiple factors including writing, pictures, target audience, and message.
