Review of Snatched Up to Heaven for Kids
The book is a very pleasant story for children to learn more about Heaven, Jesus and God, and also about hell. It is written in a simple, easy to understand language that is appropriate for children. The story is interesting and engaging and the authors use a lot of emotive language and a lot of descriptions that help the readers to form the images while reading or listening. It has also beautiful images with bright colours that accompany the story and the children are likely to find them interesting and captivating. The authors emphasise the importance of family bond. Parents listening and respecting their children as well as children obeying and listening to their parents, feeling safe and loved. Also, the main Christian concepts are explained in a very accessible manner, so all the children, those who already know about Jesus, and those who don't, will be able to learn a lot about His Life and Mission. The authors introduce some verses from the Bible in a very nice manner, avoiding the preaching tone of voice and provide references to the Bible inviting readers to explore it further. However, the part about hell can be a bit scary, especially for younger children.
There are a couple of things that I found that could be improved:
On page 11, the sentence: After Emma finished telling her family what heaven looked like in her dream, her daddy asked, "Emma, who have you seen in heaven?" The word "who" should be "whom" - it is more grammatically correct. Also, on the same page, in the sentence "Just...just...in between." There should be a space after the ellipses: "Just... just... in between." - because ellipses with a space after indicates a pause. On page 13, in the sentence: "Just... in between." it is used correctly. Another point I would like to make is as follows: on page 13, in the sentence: "No two people looked alike just like on earth". The two words "alike" and "like" are almost identical, if we could avoid this near repetition, I think it would be better. Also, there should be a comma before "like". I haven't found any other problems or typos.
I enjoyed reading the book and would recommend it to any parent who wishes their children to invite Jesus to their hearts. However, I would advise caution when reading the part about hell and perhaps reserve it for older children. I would give it a rating of 3 out of 5.
