Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula by R. F. Kristi is an interesting book. It is a fictional story about a Russian Cat detective, Inca, and her unique team.

Mom, Missy, was selected as a judge in a food competition in South Korea. She went in the company of her friend Solo and Inca & Company, a group of animal detectives. When they got to South Korea, they met Mom’s tour guide, Ye-Jun, who offered his place to stay in South Korea to give the animals a spacious and comfortable home. While getting acquainted, they learned of Ye-Jun’s sister, who went to North Korea to visit relatives and had not returned for a long time. After Inca & Company and Baram, Ye-Jun’s dog learned of the risky plan that Ye-Jun and Solo were to embark on to unite Ye-Jun with his sister, they hatched a dangerous plan to unite Ye-Jun and his sister to minimize the risk their humans want to take. Will they succeed in their quest? Read this interesting story to find out.

I love the author’s descriptive style of writing. The pictorial descriptions are colorful and entertaining. The unique font and spacing style makes it more fun and encourages children to read storybooks. The author also gave a deep insight into South Korean seasons, vegetation, cultures, customs, and impressive characteristics of Siberian animals. I also love the list of some interesting detective series provided by the author. I find the adventurous journey they set out on and the places they visited while in South Korea interesting. The team visited Namsan Park, DMZ, a demilitarized zone, a piece of land that acts as a barrier between South Korea and North Korea. They also visited the Freedom Bridge and the infiltration channel, which exposed a lot about the other side, North Korea.

Furthermore, I like the intent behind the food competition as this will strengthen the peace agreement between North Korea and South Korea. I admire the character Inca; she is bold, courageous, and a true leader. She once led her team on a mission in Sri Lanka, where they recovered stolen goods from a local museum. I also admire the character Fromage, which is bold, intuitive, and hilarious. He once acted out of intuition, and it saved Mom from embarrassment. He even claimed the ownership of the cheese created by his mom as the unapologetic cheese lover that he is.

I didn’t appreciate the passive characters in the book as the book seems to contain more than the number of characters needed. The book is exceptionally well edited. Therefore, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend this book to detectives, children, animal lovers, and lovers of interesting stories.
