In Mr. McTavish: Goes to the Library we follow Mr. McTavish, a Scottish Terrier, and his owner, Gma, as they venture out of the house to go to the library. We go through each of the steps with Mr. McTavish, such as getting in the car, getting buckled in, parking, and putting on his stylish hat. Once he arrives at the library, the two of them are the guests of honor. Mr. McTavish realizes that they are being honored because Gma donated money to the library to get a charging station for the Ipads.

It is such a cute story, and it is made even better because you get to experience the story through the eyes of a dog. Every step of the journey feels like an adventure in itself, due to the excitement of Mr. McTavish. It is illustrated well also, which makes it very appealing for the target audience, children. The illustrations do a good job of showing what is going on as well, so if the child isn’t reading yet they can still flip through the pages and get an understanding of what is going on. There is more description in this book than some of the books that I am used to reading to my toddler, but that allows it to stay relevant as the children get a little older and start absorbing more of the story.

I would rate Mr. McTavish: Goes to the Library by Bon Kay an amazing 5 out of 5 stars. I didn’t find any typos, so it was edited very carefully. But to be honest if there were typos, it was probably intentional, since that is probably how Mr. McTavish thinks, and he is the narrator. This is recommended for children or people that have children and are trying to find new books to read to them. My toddler thoroughly enjoyed the book and requested that I reread it to him a couple times today. He loves dogs and spent much of the book just pointing out where Mr. McTavish was on each of the pages, but tried to narrate what he was seeing as well. That is why I was able to say the illustrations show enough that children can tell what is going on just by looking at the pictures. It is a great book that children will love.
