I am going to give this book a 3 out of 5 star rating. I gave this book a 3 because I felt that I was constantly reading a “she said” book. I also felt the conversations made up 90% of the book when it should have felt like I was reading story not a conversation. In my opinion most children’s books should be a story not a conversation piece. I did enjoy the parts of giving detailed information of what heaven and hell were like. Hell happened to be the only profanity in the book which is considerable since it is a children’s book. I also liked that the versus’ they read at the bottom of the page when the parent’s would bring the bible out and read a verse to Emma and Bella. The book definitely could use some punctuation and grammar work in some of the sentences they have written. Also the constant use of the word said and and could be changed around a bit I’m sure. The artwork for the pictures were outstanding and did a wonderful job showing what Emma was telling her parents what heaven and all the things there looked like. I’m not sure why it was really considered a chapter book as the whole story would have flown together perfectly besides when they threw a 180 into the story about hell and what it was like. As for the description of hell it was interesting and something I myself have ever heard of about the place in stories or the bible. As an overall review of the book it was good but it could definitely be better. Would I recommend it be read by others? I absolutely would, I enjoyed that this book was about religion which isn’t for everyone and that they let the story be told by a little girl named Emma.
