Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula by R.F. Kristi is the eighth book in the Inca Cat Detective series. This colorful installment was about a trip to South Korea and an even more exciting trip to the demilitarized zone (DMZ) between North and South Korea.

The story as well as the entire series feature Inca, a curious, smart, and mildly vain Siberian cat, as its main character. Inca runs an animal detective company with her siblings, Fromage and Cara, their hamster, Charlotte, and some other neighborhood animals.

In Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula, the kitties accompany Mom, their humanoid mom, on a trip to South Korea, where she would present her new special cheese and serve as a judge in a patisserie competition. On the flight to Korea, Mom’s special cheese goes missing, and the animals have a suspect in mind. Down in Korea, the kitties make friends with a cheerful dog, Baram. Baram is kind to them, but she’s sad because she misses her friend, Bo-Mi. Bo-Mi is stuck in the north, on the other side of the wall. Soon the animal detectives are planning on how to cross the treacherous wall to rescue Bo-Mi while ensuring that Mom’s presentation is successful. How will the furry detectives handle their full plate?

This is easily the best children’s book series I’ve come across, and this particular installment did not disappoint, from the colorful illustrations to the delightful characters. The book was rich in ethics that children could learn, like the beauty of helping others and being honest. There’s also some geography in the book; I learned about the Korean DMZ.

This was a wholesome book, and I would gladly recommend it to any child between the ages of four and twelve. I noticed a few inconsistent spellings of the name “Bo-Mi.” Regardless, I believe this book was professionally edited. Having no negative comment to make, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
