Review of Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat
After reading Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula, I was moved to read other books in The Inca Cat Detective Series by R.F. Kristi. Kristi is an avid lover of animals. She has written the Inca book series to help children respect and appreciate animals. Serendipity Mystery is the seventh book in the series. It is aimed at kids aged 7 to 12.
Although this is a series, the book is standalone and you do not need to have read the previous books in the series to enjoy this one. Like all the other books in the series, Serendipity starts with an introduction to the furry friends.
It is written from Inca’s perspective. Inca is the head of a detective agency. She starts by describing herself as "a super-duper cat detective." She gives us some background information about her other furry friends and members of her detective agency, who are Fromage, Cara, Monk, Charlotte, Terrance, and Polo. The agency is called Inca & Company, and it has already been involved in solving some serious detective mysteries. Their fame has spread through London, England, and even France.
This time, Inca and her furry friends travel to a warm beach in Sri Lanka to relax and escape the winter season in France. They meet new friends, Meena, the elephant, and Rani, the turtle. What mystery will they solve this time around?
The illustrations in this book are colorful and catchy. I loved them because they added to the enjoyment of the book. The book is both informative and educational. It is appropriate for the targeted age group. Young readers will learn the meaning of genuine friendship, loyalty, good manners, and teamwork.
The only part I found containing unnecessary information is the part where Inca gets lost in the forest at night. I feel that most of the details would have been left out. However, I understand that the aim of the book is to educate, and there are a few lessons and vocabulary that a child can learn from the incident. There is nothing else that I did not like in this book.
The book is professionally edited. I did not come across any grammar or spelling mistakes. It also does not contain any profanity or content that is inappropriate for young children. I would give it a rating of four out of four stars.
I would recommend this book to young readers aged 5 to 10 and parents who are looking for good bedtime stories for their young ones. Adults who love animals would also find it interesting.
