Review of Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat
Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat by R. F. Kristi is the diary of Inca, a Siberian detective cat who, despite her involvement in numerous detective cases, enjoys spending time with her family members. Inca is the leader of a detective agency called Inca and Company, which consists of other noble and honorable cats and dogs like Inca. Inca and Company had traveled with their mother from London to Sri Lanka for the holidays. While on holiday, Inca got word that a valuable sword had been stolen from a museum in Colombo. Inca, being a detective that had a keen interest in solving all forms of crimes, immediately decided to find the culprits and the stolen sword at all costs. Will Inca and her team members be able to solve this particular crime? Find out from this book.
Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat is a fascinating children’s book that is heart-warming, captivating, and suspenseful. What I appreciated most about this book is that the author did an excellent job of making every character relatable to the readers. From the cats to the dogs, the sea turtle, the mama leopard, her cubs, the mama elephant, and the baby elephant, each character was lovable with unique qualities. They were also always prepared to help Inca and her team members with the mystery of the stolen sword. I equally enjoyed the engaging ways the author incorporated several moral lessons without over-burdening the story with unnecessary details that might make the story too dull for young readers.
My only complaint about this book is that the plot's conflict was not properly settled. For example, when Solo, a supposed professional detective, found some valuables at the foot of his bed, he never ventured to investigate how they got there. Furthermore, the animals never get appraisals for their hard work throughout the book. I believe children would have enjoyed the book more if there had been a way for the humans to appreciate the animals for their hard work and the dangers they undergo in assisting the humans.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The book deserves a perfect rating because it was exceptionally well edited, as I found no errors. It is also a well-written book with an excellent literary context. Also, I enjoyed the author’s sense of humor in describing the animals and wished the story had never ended.
Overall, I would recommend this book to young readers who love reading compelling stories about animals. Also, the captivating ways in which the author presents the animals in this book are an inspiring way in which to encourage young children to love animals.
