Did You Know? by Ashok Bhaskaran is a fun educational history children’s book. It’s entertaining and educational, too! Nine-year-old Jason narrates the book and compares old and new technology in the story. For example, he compares his computer tablet to a mud tablet. Jaso also compared flying in an airplane and having to travel by ship. He also teaches the reader about the names of inventors, such as Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell. He also makes it very clear that we need to take care of our environment.

The part I liked most about the book was the fact that it was educational, as mentioned above and the beautiful pictures. The illustrations by Elena Siderova were vibrantly colored and eye-catching. They helped illustrate the points the author was making. They were simple but cute.

The part I liked least was the writing style of the author. There were some actual grammatical errors and a lot of weirdly phrased sentences. I think the book could be improved if it was edited again.

This book is excellent for children of any age. As a read-along, parents or teachers could teach kids about technology and history. Also, the pictures would capture the attention of younger kids or toddlers. Kids not interested in the past could find it boring. Although, the author tries to connect the reader to the past by referring to grandparents and great grandparents a lot. That could help a child’s interest in the past.

I would rate Did You Know? 3 out of 4 stars. I wouldn’t rate it any lower because it was interesting, and my own five-year-old enjoyed it when I read it to her. I wouldn’t give it a 4, though, due to the weird writing style.

I would recommend Did You Know? to kids of all ages. It was a fun read! It also has a very important message about recycling plastic at the end that would be good for kids (and adults) to read!
