Review of Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat
Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat by R.F. Kristi tells the story of a cat named Inca and his family from London as they go on vacation and then stumble into a mystery. Inca is a kitty detective who works with his team that consists of his siblings, a dog, and a hamster. Some valuable items disappear from a museum, and the team tries to figure out what happened. Inca shares his adventures in his diary as they explore a few places, including the beach and the jungle. The team makes friends with other animals, including an elephant, a turtle, and a leopard. The reader follows Inca through some hair-raising events, including a run-in with a python that keeps the reader glued to this page-turner.
This story is a fun adventure. It is full of descriptive writing to immerse the reader in this tale. The pictures that go along are colorful and cute. They are a great addition to the animation of this story. Young readers will find some of the antics and expressions on the animal's face in the pictures enjoyable and entertaining as well.
Kristi includes some important lessons for children in this book. She shows how the characters use critical thinking skills to solve problems and get out of harm's way. It is also great for teaching kids about what it means to work together. Through the story, the reader observes how even those who are very different from one another can work as a team to find a solution. The author shows the importance of perseverance when trying to get through a problem.
I enjoyed the diary-style writing that the author used. The author makes the reader feel like part of this day-to-day adventure. I also loved the character personalities in this book. The story keeps the reader on their toes as they follow Inca through exciting and even unexpected events.
The only error I noticed was an illustration that contained different characters than the text on page 35. There wasn't anything that I didn't like about this book. The story was well written, and the transitions between chapters were easy to follow. Therefore, I give this book 4 out of 4 stars. I did not rate it lower because it was an enjoyable book and well-executed, aside from the one mix-up.
I recommend this book for young readers who enjoy mysteries. I also think that young readers who enjoy books with animal characters will enjoy this one. It would be a fun book for parents to read with their children.
